Have you ever forgotten your Island Health log-in password and been forced to turn to the busy Service Desk for help to get back into the system?  Or you've tried to guess your way back in, only to be locked out after too many incorrect attempts. It's probably safe to say that nobody enjoys this - not you, not the Service Desk.

Now you can save time by using the new Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) tool which launched in mid-March. SSPR allows you to reset forgotten Window/Network passwords on your own and unlock your account without the need to call the Service Desk and wait for assistance. The pre-requisite for this tool is enrolment of a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) device.

The same as you may have done with other secure internet sites, you'll first create five answers to a pre-set of 18 possible security questions. These answers and the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) device will allow users to recover forgotten passwords and/or unlock accounts.

The new tool will be available to all Island Health staff starting March 15th. The “Forgot My Password" link for remote access users or internal sites that share these remote login screens (ESS, MySchedule, etc.) will be visible starting March 16th. This link will direct you to the SSPR tool.

The “Forgot My Password" link is not available on any Island Health device login screens. You can use a personal device to navigate to the https://intranet.islandhealth.ca page to click the “Forgot my Password" link or directly to the tool at https://sspr.islandhealth.ca

What do I need to do?

Starting March 29th, all staff are expected to be set up to use SSPR, and should not need to call the service desk unless they are unable to utilize the SSPR tool to reset their password.

How to set up SSPR

Follow the instructions in the Self-Serve Password Reset (SSPR) User Guide to set up your Security Questions/Answers, or click on the poster image below for helpful QR code links to instructions.

Please Note: Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is required as a pre-requisite for using SSPR. If you have not yet setup your MFA device, please do so before March 29, 2022.

Why is this happening?

Self-Serve Password Reset or SSPR is an industry standard methodology that is currently being adopted by all BC Health Authorities.  This will free-up Service Desk resources to better address other needs and priorities.
