Dr. Michael Schachter started as a nephrologist in Victoria in 2013 after completing medical school at the University of Calgary, followed by Internal Medicine, Nephrology Fellowship and a Master's of Health Administration at UBC. He has served as the Medical Lead of Island Health's Regional Renal Transplant Program and oversaw the development of the In-Centre Nocturnal Hemodialysis program. In addition, he is the Medical Lead for the new hemodialysis unit that recently opened in The Summit Long-Term Care Facility, in which nursing home residents can now receive life-supporting dialysis therapy on-site rather than being required to commute to a hospital based dialysis unit.

When not at work, Dr. Schachter enjoys spending time with his wife, Vanja, and two boys, Vince and Isak. He is also an avid squash player and can be found many hours per week battling on the courts of the Cedar Hill Squash Club.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Schachter to the Renal Leadership team!
