Fit testing is prioritized to ensure medical staff who perform aerosol generating procedures (AGMPs) on Covid suspect/positive patients or who provide care to patients with conditions that require airborne isolation precautions (Active pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB), Measles, Chicken Pox, Disseminated Zoster) are fit tested.
Caring for COVID positive patients does not require an N95 mask. Please refer to the current PPE guidelines for further information. Fit testing is currently an annual requirement but could be done sooner in the event that a medical staff member has a significant change to the shape of their face.
Male staff need to be clean-shaven to be fit tested and remain clean-shaven to be able to wear an N95. If it’s been longer than 24-48 hours since you last shaved you likely have enough stubble to interfere with the seal of the N95.
Getting a fit testMedical staff identified as members of the prioritized groups are being contacted either directly or through their division head/medical leads to arrange fit testing within their primary geography. Fit Testing and Issuing of Respiratory Protection How to Prepare for a Fit-Test
