Island Health Medical Imaging have adopted appropriateness criteria for MRI ordering in alignment with provincial initiatives and Choosing Wisely Canada recommendations. This new MRI appropriateness checklist is required to be completed by all Family Physicians and Nurse Practitioners and be submitted alongside the updated MRI requisition for lumbar spine, knee/hips, shoulder, and for headaches. Appropriateness criteria is available for review for each of the four requisition types on the Medical Staff Website and the new checklist and updated MRI requisition form will be available in Pathways.
