This twice-yearly special event raises awareness around the vital contribution that clinical trials make to healthcare and health status, and shows our commitment to clinical research and health care for the communities we serve.

At any one time, 30-40 clinical trials are taking place at Royal Jubilee, Victoria General and Nanaimo Hospitals in areas that include:

  • gathering information on outcomes for people who experience a cardiac arrest

  • administering fecal transplant for recurrent C. difficile infections

  • studying the length of antibiotic treatment for bacteremia

  • participating in global trials for potential new therapies for dementia

  • looking at existing and new therapies for the treatment of migraines.

Cindy Trytten, Director of Research, says: “Clinical Research is an integral part of care in a learning health system. Not only does it advance medicine and generate innovations in diagnosis and treatment; it also empowers patients with care options and gives them an opportunity to provide hope for others impacted by the same condition. We know how important this is because we've studied the experience of clinical trial participants."

Stay tuned for an upcoming “Lunch & Learn" from the CTU regarding the current Clinical trials taking place at Island Health.
