Seeking rural preceptors for Island communities

The UBC Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) has launched a Rural Shadowing Initiative to increase first- and second-year medical students’ exposure to/interest in rural medicine. 

FMIG is currently seeking rural preceptors in many Interior, Sunshine Coast and Island communities who’d allow two medical students to shadow their clinic/ER for the weekends of March 3–5 and/or May 26–28, 2023. The list of potential Island communities, which must be within four hours of students’ geographic location, is provided below.

  • Port Renfrew
  • Lady Smith
  • Qualicum
  • Port Alberni
  • Courtney / Cumberland / Comox
  • Campbell River
  • Ucluelet
