Keva Glynn, Executive Lead of the Mental Health and Substance Use Sprint, provided an overview of the project at Tuesday's staff and medical staff townhall.

The Sprint is a time-limited series of targeted initiatives aimed at increasing access and quality of mental health and substance use services in four focus areas:

Improve access to mental health and substance use counseling and detox services in the community, “specifically reducing wait times to access those services."

Accelerate the response to the toxic drug crisis, which has two parts. “One is the harm reduction services and especially how to access those, and the second is the link between harm reduction and treatment, especially how we're supporting people after they present to Emergency with an overdose and connecting them to services."

Improve access to child/youth tertiary services, “with a particular focus on equity of access across geographies."

Advance Indigenous identified priorities, “focusing on the response to the toxic drug crisis, access to substance use services and withdrawal management services, cultural safety and training."

In addition to her update on the Sprint, Keva also shared important information about the new Harm Reduction – Substance Use Policy, which she says is foundational to the work of the Sprint. She encouraged participants to take the Perceptions of Substance Use Staff Survey.
